5 Benefits of going fully wireless

Published -

The term wireless headphones, as you may know, is a complete misnomer. Yes, they’re a step forward as compared to your standard comes-with-your-phone Apple Earpods, but they’re not technically wireless.  In this post we’ll explore the major advantages of true wireless headphones.

1. Fewer Distractions

For starters, having two earbuds without an interconnecting cable is a lot simpler of an equation than what we’ve seen in the past. Just think about the myriad inconveniences that you can avoid by getting rid of that cable. This is especially true for the gym where having a cord is simply the worst.

2. Convenience

This goes hand in hand with the point above. You’re now getting rid of tangled cords and will have earbuds that are ready to be used as quickly as you can get them out of your pocket. Even more, a lot of modern phones have done away with 3.5mm headphone jacks, which means true wireless earbuds aren’t just more convenient, they’re actually now full-blown necessity.

3. Extended Battery Life

This is an often overlooked point, but if you compare true wireless earbuds to regular wireless earbuds, the battery life is technically better with the true wireless option if you count the charge case—which you should. Taking the JLab Epic Air Elite as an example, the battery life on a single charge is about six hours, however, practically speaking it’s more like 38 hours since you will absolutely be using them with the charge case. This means more often than not, your true wireless earbuds will be charged and ready to go since, in effect, they have three to four times the battery capacity of your regular wireless earbuds.

4. Power Bank

Although this is somewhat rare to see, in some cases the charge case for your true wireless earbuds will double as a power bank, allowing you to charge your other electronics on the go as well. Again, using the Epic Air Elite as an example, the charge case has a capacity of 2,200 mAh, which means it can charge the earbuds roughly six times or an iPhone X once. This is a clever feature and a space saver for anyone that travels regularly.

5. Use Before Sleep

Another fringe benefit of switching to true wireless is that some people use their earbuds to fall asleep at night—think earplugs, but with soothing sounds. True wireless earbuds can function a bit like a white noise machine, but one that only you can hear. This is particularly useful if you live in an urban area or your partner snores, and this would not be possible with wired or standard wireless headphones.
