10 Tips for Safe Listening

Published -
About 15% of American adults aged 18 and over have reported hearing loss in the past year. With so much research and various studies going around about hearing damage, we wanted to make sure you were aware of safety measures and precautions you should be taking to avoid any damage.

  1. Make sure you always turn down your volume before use your headphones or earbuds, the volume can vary from device to device.
  2. Don’t listen to your headphones or earbuds for long periods of time consecutively, it’s important to give your ears a break.
  3. While traveling on a plane, make sure the volume is at a level where announcements from pilots and flight attendants won’t come booming through (we know everyone hates those interruptions).
  4. When running, walking, or biking, make sure you keep the volume at a level where you can hear traffic and noise around you. Or opt to run with just one earbud in place so you hear both music and surroundings.
  5. Get regular checkups from a hearing specialist to make sure no damage has already or is occurring.
  6. If you experience ringing in your ears, immediately adjust your volume lower and consider seeing a specialist. Ringing may be a sign of damage.
  7. If your workplace has loud noise exposures make sure you carry earplugs with you and use when needed. About 18% of adults aged 20-69 reported hearing loss when working in a noisy environment for 5 or more years.
  8. When removing your earbuds, make sure to not yank them out of your ear by the wire. This may cause the ear tip to separate from the earbud and could cause damage to your ear.
  9. Make sure you're using the right sized ear tip with your earbud as well. Be careful not to use an ear tip that is too small and could potentially end up stuck.
  10. Follow all of these rules and #FINDYOURGO!
