As the Aztecs gear up for the 2025 season, two names stand out. On one side of the ball, quarterback Jayden Denegal brings championship pedigree and fresh leadership to the offense. On the other, defensive edge rusher Trey White has emerged as one of the most dominant defenders in the country. Together, they embody the next era of Aztec football.

Jayden Denegal: Championship-Tested Quarterback
Denegal arrives in San Diego with a résumé few quarterbacks can match. After three seasons at Michigan, including being part of the Wolverines' 2023 National Championship run, the Apple Valley native is ready to step into a starting role.
At Michigan, Denegal appeared in seven games, completing 4 of 5 passes for 50 yards and a touchdown while gaining valuable experience in a championship culture. Before that, he was one of California's top high school quarterbacks, throwing for over 4,600 yards and 69 touchdowns at Apple Valley High School.
Now in San Diego, Denegal brings size, arm talent, and a championship mindset that fit perfectly into the Aztecs' offensive system. His leadership and experience give SDSU a dynamic signal-caller ready to elevate the offense in 2025.
Trey White: Relentless Defensive Force
If Denegal represents the future of the offense, White is the heart of the defense. After a breakout 2024 campaign, the Chula Vista native enters 2025 as one of the top edge rushers in the nation. His 2024 season was historic, with 60 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks, earning him First Team All-Mountain West honors, a spot on the Bednarik Award Watch List, and recognition as a Phil Steele All-America Honorable Mention.
Named a team captain as just a sophomore, White's leadership and high motor have made him the standard-bearer for the Aztecs' defense. He's already drawn national attention, landing on the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List heading into 2025. His consistency, work ethic, and ability to disrupt opposing offenses make him a cornerstone of the Aztecs' defensive front.
Offense Meets Defense
With Denegal leading the charge on offense and White anchoring the defense, San Diego State has two cornerstone players who represent both sides of the ball. Their journeys couldn't be more different, Denegal transferring in from a national champion, White grinding his way to stardom as a hometown product—but together, they embody the toughness, leadership, and ambition of Aztec football.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 season marks a fresh chapter for San Diego State, and the combination of Denegal and White gives the Aztecs playmakers who can change the game on every snap. One commands the huddle, the other disrupts it. Both are leaders and competitors, and with JLab supporting their preparation, they're ready to make an impact.
The future of San Diego State football is bright, and with Jayden Denegal and Trey White driving the program forward, the Aztecs are poised to rise to new heights.
